Here Is A Man Who Stood Up

Posted on August 1, 2008 at 7:57 am

The editorial voice of the City Paper brushes off the 287(g) haters:

The real truth behind the complaints against 287(g) is that it simply runs contrary to this country’s de facto policy of looking the other way when it comes to illegal immigration. For decades, the leaders of both political parties – including tough-talking Republicans – have simply ignored the issue of illegal immigration. Even in the wake of 9/11, our country’s borders remained porous and open.

The local application of the 287(g) law flies in the face of that lazy, even dangerous, status quo. Sheriff Daron Hall is getting the brunt of the anger for this program, but he is to be commended. With 3,500 illegal immigrants deported, including dozens of gang members, the local use of this federal law is doing what generations of Washington politicians would not.

“Never mind that most dangerous illegal immigrants we see in Middle Tennessee are either drunk drivers who should have been off the road and in prison years ago or gang members who are pretty damn effectively eluding capture.”

Years ago I agree. BUT THIS IS NOW. Citizens are finally fed up enough to go the extra mile and support backing up 287g. Mostly because it was a program that many law enforcement personnell were not even aware of until recently.Time to round them up THEN sort them out! Nashville has captured plenty of illegal gand members since they really got down and serious about the illegal invasion and you don’t acknowledge that.

“They get to go around rounding up and arresting people who are, far and away, non-violent ordinary folks who pose no danger to the community…”

If you don’t consider your ‘neighbor’, who may have had their identity stolen and ruined, (as in the pro-illegals description: “handcuffed=shackeled=tortured”) Villegas case, a part of someone’s “community”, I feel for you, ’sweety’.

“The question you have to ask yourself, Nashville, is this: While the police in this city are busy looking busy, are you actually any safer?”
    LOL

As one of your posters said “You don’t like the law? Run for office and change them.”!
