Reporting From The TNGOP Statesmen’s Dinner

Posted on July 28, 2008 at 8:13 am

Richard Locker reports from the closed to the press Republican Statesmen’s Dinner:

- Former White House senior political advisor Karl Rove told Tennessee Republicans the story of Sam Houston, the only man who ever served as governor of two states, as a metaphor for an unnamed president who grew unpopular with his people.

According to some who attended, Rove said Houston was wildly popular as the Texas governor (and former Tennessee governor) who helped lead Texas to independence from Mexico. But he was deposed as governor in 1860 because he opposed secession from the Union, an unpopular stand before the Civil War broke out — but a stand for which history later vindicated him.

    This is outrageous.

I was defending Hobbs in the context that both political parties do have private fundraisers without the press, but he has a lot of explaining to do given the Commercial Appeal was allowed to cover this ON the record, and no one in the press in Nashville could.

Unless, of course, Bill doesn’t consider bloggers the press. Now that would be ironic.

Bill? What say you about the CA covering your closed event on the record?

All I’m saying is that the TN Democratic Party opened their event up to the press and bloggers alike. What are the Republicans hiding?

De-wad your panties, Sharon. Locker was reducued to running around asking people to tell him what went on. It fills my heart with joy to watch liberal reporters in a snit.

Dunn and Brock were great and (for a political dinner), the food was good. Sorry you missed it.

Everyone knows the Tennessee Republican Party was just trying to keep the press from asking Rove why he thinks the Tennessee Republican Party is a bunch of jackasses.

Micky-Oh, I’m press. I spent 30 years in MSM and the fact I do it online doesn’t make me any less legitimate.
There are also many political bloggers who never did MSM who I now would consider journalists. (I wouldn’t have when I started blogging) But it’s the future, and the future is here and serious political bloggers are indeed journalists.

Reality…I defended Hobbs on the issue of both parties holding private fundraisers, so I deserved an answer, and me being a liberal has nothing to do with it, and neither does my gender, regarding the panties remark.
