Blackburn Mails It In
By Kleinheider Posted on July 28, 2008 at 10:01 amTom Leatherwood, the insurgent GOP challenger in District 7, attempts to correct his record on health care for illegal immigrants:
Marsha Blackburn has said that I would support “taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants.” This is absolutely not true and she knows it is not true. She is desperate and desperate people say and do desperate things. I am and always have been absolutely opposed to free health care for illegals or a nationalized (socialized) health care system.
If you would like to see the June 4th Commercial Appeal article she refers to on her mail piece, you can click on the link at the end of this article. You will notice that there are absolutely no statements about free healthcare for illegal immigrants. I have also provided a link to a letter to the editor which I wrote addressing the false information she and her staff began putting out weeks ago.

Mr. Leatherwood is obviously one confused little puppy. He has said that he would have supported SCHIP. In doing so he supports health care for illegal immigrants. This is part of SCHIP. So one of two things happened here: 1. Leatherwood supports health care for illegal immigrants via SCHIP or 2. he did not do his homework and look into legislation that he claims he would support. Either way I would not want someone like him representing me in Congress. He either wants my tax dollars going to help illegals or he did not take time to research legislation he said he would support. Congressman Blackburn did not support SCHIP and maybe now Leatherwood knows why.
And just for good measure, the article that Leatherwood referenced does point out that he supports SCHIP. Does he still not understand why he has said he supports health care for illegals. Even after it has been pointed out to him he has not gone back and checked this legislation. This guy is dumber than I thought. He has asked the readers to reference an article that makes Blackburn’s point very, very clear.
Flip Flopper.
Guess Tom finally did his homework and figured out why he shouldn’t support SCHIP.
I guess that whole pandering thing and saying what ever he thought would get him elected thing didn’t work out so well…you shouldn’t have listened to the that court house gang Tom
You guys. I read the article, NO WHERE did it say Tom supported or would vote for SCHIP..
“Bald Face Liar” = Rep. Marsha Blackburn
http://bluecollarrepublican.com/blog/?p=425
He scolded his opponent for not voting for it. That would only means he supports it or he would have to turn around and scold himself for not supporting it. Mickey, I have read many of your posts and know your not the sharpest tool in the shed, but give me a break, you cannot attack someone for not supporting a piece of legislation without meaning that you WOULD support it. He did not do his homework and it came back to bite him. All he saw was dollar signs for Shelby County so he jumped on board without researching the entire bill. If he does not support it as he claims, why he is so mad that Rep. Blackburn did not support it? Something does not add up here.
Leatherwood doesn’t support SCHIP. he point of his statement was essentialy this:
Why would you vote to sponsor huge earmarks to places not even in your district, but not vote for somethign that would’ve supported something right here at home.
Anyway, its a moot point A) B/c Leatherwood doesn’t support it and B) He doesn’t support any kind of earmarks. Good try TNRepublican and MannyG
I dont care if either one support it or not (it is unconstitutional) the point is the mailer said HE SAID he supported it , and HE NEVER did say it. Thus the lie.
If I condemn someone for their support of something, for example lets just say something simple like the New York Yankees. Would it not be logical to assume I do not support the New York Yankees? That is just common sense. He realized after he attacked her this that he was wrong and now he is not man enough to come out and say it. The money she did support went to a program designed to allow terminally ill children a chance to see animals at the zoo one last time. Is this something we should be attacking her for? Are you so heartless that terminally ill children are people you do not want to spend a little money on. This would have gone directly to her district in what I believe is a worth while call, I guess you disagree.
Yes, I disagree. Marsha and You and I can give all or some of our money to help the children. I do. But Marsha has no Constitutional authority to give tax money for this.
He never said it.
She is just another sorry az money grubbing lieing pol.
I hope they vote her butt out of office!
I’m still waiting for one rational argument from Mickey that doesn’t include some ranting about the constitution. Seek professional help Mickey.
If he’s in for for money for the Med then he’s in for SCHIP. If he’s in for SCHIP then he’s in for health care for illegals.
2+2 still equals 4 here.
Maybe in Leatherwood’s socialized medicine world it equals 5
How about It Is NOT Her’s To Give!
Fail! The rest of that sentence is “because the constitution says so.” I find it harder and harder to take anything you say seriously when all you do is repeat yourself with no original thought or dialog.
Mr. Leatherwood continually claims he has the support of 37 elected officials throughout the district. One of which claims Leatherwood is using his name without permission. Anyway, how many elected officials do you think there is in the 7th? You figure 15 counties with maybe 20 elected officials each, 69 cities and towns with mayors, alderman, etc. and all the school boards, waste water commissioners, dogcatchers and whatnot. That adds up to (conservatively) about 800 elected officials and Leatherwood has support from 37 of them, or roughly 0.04% of the elected officials. That is impressive sir, you should continue to play this card. I hope you plan on getting more percent of the vote than that. But then again, thats about how much of the vote Mickey got a few years back.
well the fayette county republicans are mad becuase marsha will not come and debate tom and she has not had a town hall in over 2 years.
http://bluecollarrepublican.com/blog/?p=424
Why should Marsha debate Tom Leatherwood? I saw him speak the other week and it was embarrassing. He attacked someone in the crowd who was video taping the event. He was ranting and raving like a lunatic. I mean if this is the kind of behavior he showed at one event, how can you trust him to be civilized in a debate.
Personally, I don’t trust the guy after seeing his true colors. I mean his constant threatening tone of “how do you like that Marsha” and “you can put that on YouTube” made me scared for my life. How will he act when he gets to congress? Will he start threatening people and screaming at fellow representatives? We need someone that is mentally stable to represent us, not some one that acts like they should be locked in a padded room.
Bobby Green; pics or it didn’t happen. If what you say is true, that video should be on YouTube by now.
Some of you on this website claim to be true conservatives. Why then would you not support Marsha Blackburn? Look at her record! Let’s also talk about how Leatherwood’s quick/naive support of SCHIP would have given illegal immigrants health care paid for by taxpaying citizens! On your dime!
Ouch! TNRepublicanjust took Leatherwood and Mickey out to the wood shed and whipped them both in ONE post.
Vote Curtis Sanderfer SGA president!!
I too saw Tom Leatherwood scream at a young kid with a video camera. I thought that Tom was going to have to be restrained and put into the back of a police car like Mark Albertini was a few years ago the way he was foaming at the mouth with venomous rage. The man is truly off his rocker and has run a pretty shady campaign from the get go. He’s not acting like the nice guy Tom Leatherwood that everyone speaks fondly of. He’s now more like that favorite uncle of yours who used to be nice and normal but ended up being placed in a mental institution after crumbling under pressure. I have a feeling that Mickey White’s nephews have a lot of conversations like that too.
TN Con. Masrsha Supports the UN, WTO CAFTA, Unemloyment payments, PORK (Bridges to NoWhere), increasing the DEBT, Money to fight GLOBAL Aids, Agriculture subsidies, Prescription drug benefits, job training, Foreign Aid, the Patriot Act. What is CONSERVATIVE about that?
Tom Leatherwood supports the UN, WTO CAFTA, Unemloyment payments, PORK (Bridges to NoWhere), increasing the DEBT, Money to fight GLOBAL Aids, Agriculture subsidies, Prescription drug benefits, job training, Foreign Aid, the Patriot Act.
Marsha’s votes and record of the above are in the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD. Novak, where is your record on what Tom supports?
Tom has publicly said that he believes that we must keep the UN and not abolish it.
Wrong. He did say we need to demolish it and start again with something else. Marsha doesn’t want to demolish it.
I am not trying to defend TOM as much as I am trying to get the TRUTH out about NeoCon Marsha.
Here is more info on the meeting where I heard him say the very words above…
West Fayette County Republican Meeting 07/24/2008 (email)
http://bluecollarrepublican.com/blog/?p=424
I hear Tom spent all his campaign money to release a press release today. Is that the best idea? To reference an article where he condemns Blackburn for not supporting SCHIP, which yes I agree tnrepublican, means he must support it. Marsha does not support pork like the goons in the Memphis Courthouse. Why do you think they are trying to get rid of her. All they want to see is dollar signs, like the commercial Cohen runs with his pork figures. Leatherwood is supported by supporters of PORK. Mickey, you and Tom both need to research issues before you just blurt out information without knowing all the facts.
9.5 TRILLION in debt, thanks to Marsha. She is The Queen of Pork! oink!
Jim Novak,
Did you introduce yourself to Tom Leatherwood as ‘Jim Novak’ or ‘memphis_watchdog’?
“Marsha does not support pork like the goons in the Memphis Courthouse.”
Which ones in the “Memphis Courthouse” specifically?
Mickey,
Your right she is to blame for 9.5 trillion all by herself (please note the sarcasm). Again you are over exagerrating just like Leatherwood likes to do. I am sure the democratic Congress has nothing to do with that. Maybe you should change your blog to bluecollardemocrat since you seem to take their side over your republican, conservative Congressman. You continually make statements that make me take you less and less seriously.
Joe,
Why do you think Cohen starts his commercial with how much money he brought to Memphis? Because that is what the officials there like for him to do and open their greedy wallets and accept all the money. It is what they live for. The .04% (nice calculation tnrepublican, I was beginning to get sick of hearing that nonsense) that support him know they have Leatherwood in their pocket and if he was elected would be able to bring in the big bucks. There is a reason that 99.96% of elected officials do not support him.
Ahh, forget it. I realize I’m sounding like an idiot, agreeing with made up numbers and whatnot. The Memphis Courthouse argument was pretty lame. Glad I’ve had a change of heart.

Good idea, someone log in as the same name as me. Even Mickey isn’t dumb enough to fall for that one, or maybe it is Mickey or Joe, since they can’t refute my points they have to act like me and pretend I refute my own points. That is pretty low. Now here is some real lying and cheating and to think you accuse a good honest conservative of the same low tricks you pull.

Tim: Tom Leatherwood isn’t running in Steve Cohen’s district, so your comparison doesn’t make a bit of sense. The Shelby County portion of the 7th CD is just as conservative as Williamson county, and the Republicans here have no more tolerance for big government spending than the ones up there. To claim that Leatherwood has some shady big-government allegiances is stretching the truth.
(I’m assuming I’m responding to a post you really wrote, of course.)

Mr. Leatherwood never said he supported SCHIP — the article the Blackburn campaign referred to simply said that it was hypocritical for Marsha to oppose that bill WHILE she supported the Houston Zoo earmarks. The article can be found here: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jun/04/leatherwood-talks-02
As to SCHIP providing health care for illegals, Senator Lamar Alexander (who Marsha Blackburn supports) stated in his weekly column that SCHIP “does not expand access to include illegal immigrants. It explicitly prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid and SCHIP benefits. It requires, for the first time, an established process for states to verify citizenship of SCHIP enrollees.” The link to Sen. Alexander’s entire article is here: http://alexander.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Columns.Detail&Column_id=7a588bf1-785d-48d5-8578-23879716cc87&Month=10&Year=2007

Mickey, I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Leatherwood is just a slick back room politician like Clinton. Have you seen him in person? He will barely look you in the eye. He’s always got his chin up, nose in the air looking at something else. Pretty smarmy if you ask me.
And with all the liberal groups lining up to help get him in office…well…I wonder about the rest of his credentials…
And I see one of the Smiths has joined us…that sounded like a weird Matrix reference…
AJ, so your argument is that Blackburn should have supported a huge step toward socialized medicine and put tax payers on a multi-billion dollar hook for entitlement health care (illegal aliens or not) over the Houston zoo program witch was a pilot program for distance education so sick kids int he hospital could see an elephant before they died. 3/4ths of the program was also privately funded. And just try and tell me rural West Tenn couldn’t benefit from distance education programs. You live on a farm…
