Senator Burchett Thinks Closing Statesmen’s Dinner To Press Is “Stupid”

Posted on July 25, 2008 at 3:39 pm

Knoxville’s state Senator has some strong words on the TNGOP’s decision to close the party’s annual fundraiser:

State Sen. Tim Burchett, R-Knoxville, said today: “That’s about the stupidest thing I ever heard of.”

Burchett said Rove “probably” asked that the dinner be closed, but said the party should not have honored the request.

“The only other thing I can figure is that no one wants to come to their boring chicken dinner, so they did this to try and stir up some interest,” he added.

Additionally, the chairman of the event, Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, is calling for the TNGOP to open the event.
