TNGOP Communication Director Miffed At Press Conference’s Poor Attendance

Posted on July 21, 2008 at 2:31 pm

From the Hobbsichord:

Funny, you’d think a visit to Nashville by a former Fortune 500 CEO who is one of John McCain’s top advisers, especially on economic and business issues, (and who also is mentioned as McCain’s possible vice presidential nominee) would have drawn a little more media interest, especially on what is, otherwise, a moderately slow news day around these parts.

Maybe the economy and the presidential race just isn’t a big story these days.

As the communications director, isn’t doing media relations Bill Hobbs’ job? Wouldn’t it be his responsibility to encourage the media to attend events like this?

Being a gasbag blogger isn’t Hobbs’ only job, and it sounds like he forgot which job he was supposed to do that day.

Wow, Hobbs fucks up a press conference and it’s the media’s fault. What a douchebag. Did anyone except the TNGOP’s flack think there was anything newsworthy in this event?

The sad thing is that Hobbs will never see the humor in what he wrote.

Maybe it has to do with the fact the Fiorina is traveling around the country (in style, no doubt, thanks to that 24K golden parachute for a job well done running HP into the ground) lying about McCain’s positions on the economy, abortion rights, and health care. The local press was just smart enough not to waste their time.

    All -

Hobbs sent out the press release announcing Fiorina’s visit on Friday to media outlets, including bloggers. Short of running a shuttle service to the event and catering it himself, I don’t see how Hobbs “(screwed) up a press conference.”

    Cheers,

    Rob

    Rob,

Well, first its not generally a good idea to put out a press release on a Friday.

Second, even I know that if you want media to show up its a good idea to call early in the morning on the day of the event to remind them.

But hey, its Hobbs’ call…maybe he just didn’t want to deal with Fiorina saying inaccurate wrong and having to clarify it the next day.

    Cheers,

    Sean

I didn’t receive a press release, and I cover events for my readers on all sides if I think it’s of interest to my readers.
