Memphis Teamsters endorse Mike Padgett for U.S. Senate:

Teamsters Local 1196, headed by Nate Jackson, and Teamsters Local 984, headed by Terry Lovan, both are supporting Padgett in the Aug. 7 primary. Henry Perry, president of Local 667, announced his endorsement for Padgett last week.

“With jobs as the keystone of my campaign, I am honored to have the support of Teamsters in Memphis,” Padgett said. “My father-in-law was a member of the Teamsters in Knoxville, so the union tradition is a proud part of our family.

“With Tennessee unemployment up a full percentage point in June, more and more Tennesseans are worried about their own jobs. With erosion like this in the workplace, unions like the Teamsters have never mattered more.

“I am glad to have their help on election day, but they will be even more important to me as I work in the Senate to bring more decent-paying jobs to Tennessee.”

Opponent Bob Tuke boosts the endorsement of a Knoxville Teamsters local.

The support of Teamsters 1196 is no surprise; the prior president of the local was County Commissioner Sidney Chism, one of the few Shelby elected officials to support Padgett. Sidney still has a great deal of pull there…
