Like Social Security But For Health Insurance
By Kleinheider Posted on July 15, 2008 at 2:32 pmRep. Jim Cooper is a big fan:
Under the Bill, the government would automatically take a small chunk out of your paycheck every week like Social Security. But unlike Social Security, health insurance would remain privatized. You’d get to pick a private plan, which the government would use that money to pay for.
Private insurance. Universal coverage.
What’s the cost? If you make more than $40,000, you’ll pay a little more – about $7 per month on average. If you make over $50,000 it goes up about $25 per month or more. However, no one can be turned down for any reason. And it costs the same for everyone, no matter what your age or medical situation.
Another benefit: your health insurance plan is completely unrelated to your employer, so you don’t have to change plans when you change jobs – and you’re not at risk of losing your health insurance if you’re unemployed.

Similar to the system in Chile.
Great idea except for the private insurance part.
Congresscritters need to get this through their thick skulls: private insurance companies are FOR PROFIT business. By their very nature they are going to be more expensive than a NON-PROFIT, government insurance program. They are in business to MAKE a freaking profit. They will cut services, inflate rates, deny coverage, cut payments to doctors, and do anything else they need to do to MAKE A PROFIT.
Great for some businesses. Not great for healthcare.
Great except for the Government involvement part.
No, Mickey, Healthcare, like education, needs to be removed from the private sector altogether. That way, you would have what you need when you needed it. And who would pay for it? You would. And I would, and so would everyone else.
but but but i don’t want to pay for your health care leftwinger
Just what we need, another government program that takes money from the people, then spends it on things other than what it was intended for, continually writes itself iou’s and then goes bankrupt!
