Naifeh Fudges On Gun Permit Claim In Wake Of Controversy
By Kleinheider Posted on July 9, 2008 at 2:58 pmThe Tennessee Republican Party has unearthed a potentially damaging bombshell regarding House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh.
The party accuses Jimmy Naifeh of lying in a press release describing himself as a concealed carry permit holder nine days after catching heat from the gun rights community for engaging in some inspired parliamentary maneuvering in order to to scuttle a piece of legislation which would have concealed the identities of concealed permit holders.
The Tennessee Firearms Association asserts that Naifeh’s “boast” on April 11 that he had become a permitholder was a lie. Naifeh, according to public records, did not officially apply for the permit until April 21 and thus could not legally have received his permit until at least a month later.
Naifeh did provide the state with a certificate showing he took a handgun certification class on March 29, 2008, at Brighton Arms with a Smith and Wesson Model 8906 9mm semi-automatic pistol. However, Naifeh did not submit an actual application for the permit until nearly a month later.
At least now it would appear we know why the TNGOP was making public records requests on gun owners while they were at the same time decrying such records being available to the general public.

Not so fast:
http://www.saysuncle.com/archives/2008/07/09/not-so-fast-tngop/
The handgun permitting procedure is an absolute disaster…especially renewals. That department is currently just beginnig to process renewals that were received in early April and the process is taking 4 months to complete.
uh oh. just saw his opinion piece. wow.
I’m certain the voters in his district can’t wait to overlook the years of wonderful service he’s provided them and vote for a Gooper because he misspoke about a concealed carry permit. Yup, that’s a winner to me, Hobbsie. Back to sleep.
How pathetic. B-Ho is pulling a chapter from his sorry past. Remember when his lame-ass candidate for governor, BIG (Loser) Jim Bryson, got hammered for lying about having a hunting license in Tennessee when he had never even applied for one. Then Bryson’s lame-ass spokesperson lied and said Bryson had a hunting license in Arkansas. Nope, Bryson never applied for one there either. Oh, yeah, and then Bryson said that skeet shooting counted as hunting. What a riot.
Sorry, B-Ho, this ain’t even close. Naifeh was in the process of getting a permit. We know you’re still smarting from the beating you and Bryson took, but this won’t ease your pain.
I hope nontrustwhorthy SOB get beat his next re-election try. He has been a bur in the sides of gun owners and sportsmen since his first day in office. This ain’t his first lie he has got caught up in, but he come out smelling like a rose.
“A majority of Americans want more and stronger gun control laws.”
Really? How come so many polititions tell their lies on the pro gun side?
It coul db eworse… I used to reside in Massachusetts-they have a long history of treating gun-owners ( other than cops ) as pariah.
I must apologize for the typos.
Four months to process a renewal? With computers, checking some one’s background takes a few seconds. This enourmous delay is made on purpose to exasperate and disgust applicants. Telling people they must wait four months before getting their lifesaver is like telling them to wait four months before they can breathe. If you accept this insulting delay (and you have no choice; they blackmail you), officials have the perverted satisfaction of seeing you begging, like a dog asking for a bone. You get your permit but this pleasure is ruined by the delay. And slimy officials have made you understand it’s not a human right, but only a precarious advantage dependant on their arrogant whims. This widespread humiliation does not happen by accident; it’s designed to convince people that they can’t hope to have their human rights enforced immediately. If private sector workers argued they need four months to renew a card, they would go bankrupt and be locked up in the deranged cretin’s room.
So Speaker Jimmy “misspoke?”
That must be some kind of Dimocrat codeword for what the rest of us would call a bald-faced lie. “Misspoke” does sound ever so much nicer, and when it’s something you do routinely, any little comfort is appreciated, I’m sure.
It took me 15 minutes from the time I walked into the Sheriff’s office until I left with my permit. I live in Pennsylvania.
Wow, after reading these posts about the hassle involved in getting a carry permit in Tennessee, I’m happy I’ve moved to Ohio nine years ago. The process is all computerized here, and gone too is the waiting period to purchase a handgun…the process took me less than an hour.

Naifeh wouldn’t get elected if it weren’t for all the corruption by the Democrat political machine here in TN. I’ve heard some people in his district vote for him twice, or they risk losing their government benefits. He should set up his campaign office in a cemetery, because the dead love him. Naifeh: Vote early & often.
