Eaton Says Noone Will Debate Him
Posted on July 3, 2008 at 5:05 pmKenneth Eaton wants to everyone to know that he ain’t yella:
Democratic Senatorial candidate Kenneth Eaton announced on Thursday, “Other Candidates refuse to debate him” Eaton is criticizing his opponents Bob Tuke and Mike Padgett for refusing to debate him. Eaton, Padgett and Tuke were invited to a debate in Knoxville on TV WBIR on Thursday July 3rd.
The Eaton Camp approved the debate but on Wednesday the other two candidates backed out saying they do not want to debate. Another debate set up in Greenville TN and one of the candidates had a “last minute” schedule conflict.
In an election that has gained very little press coverage, it is astonishing that the other legitimate candidates would not welcome a chance to get their message out to the people on a statewide level.
Eaton, who is welcoming a debate, is disappointed in the other candidates stating, “they are hiding from the people of Tennessee and such a venue would show Tennessean’s the true side of each candidate and how they can handle the task of unseating incumbent Lamar Alexander. When it comes down to a race this important, the people of Tennessee deserve the right to an informed opinion. My opponents must feel the opposite is the case, as they are insistant that a ‘debate is not necessary’ when it comes to the public forming their opinions on who should be the next senator of the great state of Tennessee. I will debate any of my opponents, as long as the forum is appropriate. I believe all Tennesseans have the right to an informed decision; my opponents obviously do not.”
One camp stated it would not be in their best interest to do a debate and another gave no reason at all.
Eaton says, “The debates will benefit Tennesseans the most; Tuke and Padgett aren’t concerned with what benefits Tennesseans. Just like insiders; they are more concerned with what benefits them, and their particular belief systems.”
