The Saga Continues: New Oak Hill Commisioner Suggests City Manager’s Retirement Was Not Voluntary

Posted on June 27, 2008 at 12:03 pm

Newly ensconced Republican Oak Hill City Commissioner Austin McMullen breaks the lid off the rumors swirling about the retirement of Bill Kraus.

McMullen asserts that the City Manager’s retirement was not voluntary and related not just to active campaigning on behalf of a City commissioner candidate (a violation of the law) but also Kraus’s $200.00 dollar donation to that candidate:

What is clear is that Bill Kraus violated Tennessee law by contributing $200.00 to and campaigning for Tommy Jacobs in his run for re-election to the Board of Commissioners. The law Bill Kraus violated specifically states that the penalty for violating the law is termination. When this matter came to light, Bill Kraus voluntarily chose to retire. This has been reported in several news accounts over the past few days. Contrary to the statement in Bill Kraus’ letter, no “special meeting” has been scheduled.
