Driller Thriller: The TNGOP Knows How To Flip It

Posted on June 26, 2008 at 3:16 pm

The Tennessee GOP is back in the viral video business. In their follow-up to the that Corker-pleaser “Proud”, the TNGOP dispenses with the sensational and goes issue-oriented.

Barack Obama doesn’t want to drill for oil off the shore of America to pump a little supply into this oil demanding economy. The Tennessee Republican Party says, “Yes, we can.”

    Brevity is not over-rated.

It costs me $200 in fuel yesterday and today on my round trip to Pensacola. The cost is just outrageous. I remember gas being 69 cents a gallon back in ‘88 and 89…ahh those were the good ole days. We drove from Savannah to Nashville and back that summer and it only cost $30 bucks for the entire trip in our chevy truck. Hmmm who was president back then Sean?

I graduated High School in 2001 and gas was $1.00, what is your point? Its Bush’s failed strategy in the Middle East, coupled with the rise of Asia, that has sent the price sky-rocketing. Has nothing to do with domestic drilling capacity which would only introduce 3% or so oil into the global markets which set the price.

If we nationalized our oil production and set the price outside of the global market, then we could see some real savings from further drilling. Otherwise, this is just a land and resources giveaway to oil companies that are already sitting on millions of acres of unused oil reserves.

BTW, I’m not calling for nationalization of our oil supply, I’m just saying that is the only real way to reduce our energy costs at home.

If we do drill offshore, though, think of the 8 cents we’ll save.

I think George Bush made a simple miscalculation in estimating the time it would take to deliver on the promise to “jawbone OPEC into opening their spigots.” I’m willing to bet it really takes 12 years, and John McCain could be the four more years Bush’s brilliant foreign policy needs to stabilize our strategic national interests in the Middle East.

I remember when my sister and I would drive our family car (singular) to a filling station in Columbia, tell the guy to put in 50 cents’ worth of high test (Daddy said high test or nothing), and drive to Spring (Sprang) Hill and back, with plenty of gas left over to drive around the square a few times and then go home.
