A Violent Society In Need Of Pants

Posted on June 19, 2008 at 11:22 am

Say Uncle takes issue with the assertion that gun violence is “everyone’s problem”:

It is everyone’s problem. But there is predominately one socioeconomic group that comprises an overwhelming majority of both victims and perpetrators of gun violence. And, basically, until we can all put on our big boy pants and talk openly about that, there will be little impact on gun violence.

This applies more to class than race, although this is a back-door attempt to scream the N-word. Keep it up, all this does is ensure an even higher African-American turnout in the fall.

And they WON’T be voting for McCain or Bob Barr.

Heh, I live in Memphis, tell me again who has the big-boy pants! :-)

I never knew that “Economically depressed, politically disenfranchised social subgroup” began with an N?

Just remember, being honest about the situation and the statistics inherently makes you a racist, no matter how factual or thruthful they may be.

That, and it always has to be someone elses’s fault (which is my back-door attempt to scream “BLAME WHITEY!”).

[...] Why can’t we discuss that openly and honestly? I know we’ve brought it up here before, and when others do it the R-word gets tossed around pretty quickly. Shame, [...]

If you make it about CLASS, I agree to a certain extent. I just don’t believe that was the implication, or at least the complete implication. Im I’m wrong, mea culpa, if not…

“I just don’t believe that was the implication,”

Because you have evidence to support this or because you just choose to because of the subject?

Look. I’ve met Uncle. And I find it very hard to believe that he was singling out any particular demographic unfairly.

In fact, I’ve NEVER heard him smear gun-toting flag-waving redneck NRA hillbillies with assault weapons. What makes anyone think he’d start now?

Wait a sec…who did YOU think he meant?

Funny how the only person who immediately thought of the “N-word” was LeftWingCracker.

Well Murdoc, when “gun-toting flag-waving redneck NRA hillbillies with assault weapons” start offing each other, their perceived “enemies” and helpless victims in statistically significant numbers we in the gun community will despise them as much as those discernible groups that are currently doing it (not that those groups aren’t potentially problematic.) When they develop a musical sub-genre which glorifies such activities and which produces Grammy winning artists, garners mainstream airplay on radio and television and which, to the objective eye, is producing a cultural division of individuals who feel that crime is “business” and even the most trivial of personal slights is answerable with violence and gun play…then I’ll direct some attention in that direction. The actions of these individuals are being exploited to attack my Constitutional rights and persons like yourself who refuse to address the issue candidly out of some misplaced sense of ethics are simply enabling those attacks.

And if you think the group I am speaking of is entirely ethnic in nature, you need to come read the local papers where I live, spend some time with the local youth (about 98% white) and meet my friend’s stepson who is so white he’s almost clear and so far has only failed to become a statistic because he’s completely incompetent (he’s only managed a few felony thefts and a grand theft auto while working on his career as a rap star…not bad for 16.)
