Partner Him With The Devil Himself

As long as it gets him elected, Obamafanatic Sean Braisted doesn’t care who Obama’s ticket mate is:

Webb’s vocal support for the confederate soldiers may not be a positive quality in my book - in fact it is probably detracts from my support of his vice-presidential candidacy - but quite frankly I didn’t support Webb because I found an ideological kinship with him; I support him because I think he’ll help Obama win. My dream ticket would be Obama/Feingold, but I know that isn’t going to happen, and I’m realistic. Obama could pick David Duke or Geraldine Ferraro to be his VP, and I’d still support him vociferously…to me, his VP pick only matters so far as it helps him get elected.

Was about to defend Webb here but the update, in which Webb defends himself, is just superb. I continue to be impressed with this guy. He is very smart, very articulate, and inspires confidence. It is always problematic to simplify that which is complex and even mysterious by nature - what motivated the Confederate soldier, or any soldier for that matter. It is implausible to me that Johnny Reb was out there fighting, bleeding, and dying to defend the institution of slavery. Their defense of the South, their courage and endurance was, to this Yankee, admirable. They are worthy of great praise, as much praise as we give those who stormed the beaches at Normandy, Iwo Jima, and Tarawa.

Just before the senate election in Virginia the opposition pulled sentences and paragpaphs out of Webb’s novels. They were taken out of context and represented a totally bogus tactic. I’ve read all of Webb’s books. They’re very good. I don’t want him to be VP. I’d rather see him as SecDef or stay in the senate. He is more effective there.
