What exactly was the thought process here? You’re going make rural Mennonites who just wanna be left alone spend more than their property is likely worth bringing their schools up to code? Are the authorities really gonna cite the Mennonites if they don’t bring the buildings up to code:

Gov. Phil Bredesen vetoed legislation that would have exempted small, private Mennonite schoolhouses in Henry County from state fire safety codes.

Bredesen said in a letter to Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey that exempting the small schools would “erode Tennessee’s reasonable system of building and fire code protections.”
