To Conserve Money You Have To Use Conservation Money

Posted on May 15, 2008 at 4:50 pm

From the AP:

Lawmakers plan to divert land conservation money to help close a shortfall in the Tennessee state budget.

The $15 million hole in the spending plan was created after lawmakers rejected an administration plan to end a tax exemption on certain family-owned businesses.

Legislative leaders in both chambers confirm to The Associated Press that they plan to replace that money with funds from the real estate transfer tax.

The real estate transfer money is currently used for land acquisition and soil conservation.
