Nathan Vaughn, A Man Alone

Posted on May 13, 2008 at 11:27 am

Cara Kumari notes that Democratic state Rep. Nathan Vaughn this morning took issue with some of the budget decisions the Governor has made:

Rep. Nathan Vaughn is taking issue with the 3100 vacant positions that the state is going to continue to fund, while asking for 2000 buyouts and no salary increases. He referred back to last year’s big salary increases for department top dogs, saying “In the the good times we compensate the people at the top, in the bad times we punish the people on the bottom”.

Nathan Vaughn has been making friends all over as of late. Last week, he likely drew the ire of Speaker Naifeh for voting with Republicans to overturn parliamentary ruling the Speaker had made.

Despite breaking bad with his fellow Dems, Vaughn doesn’t seem to get any love from Republicans, at least down at party headquarters. He has become, recently, a favorite punching bag for Tennessee Republican Party spokesman Bill Hobbs as well. Vaughn is presently in a struggle for reelection in his conservative East Tennessee district.

We could do worse than Vaughn in many ways. Better be careful.
