A Few Sandwich Boards Shy Of A Picnic

Newscoma reports on the campaign of white natonalist congressional candidate James Hart. Best known for his 26% percent showing in the 2004 general election, Hart will likely be denied a place on the 2008 Republican Primary ballot like he was last year.

Question: why bother to have Hart disqualified for not being a “true Republican”? Surely, it not the first time a candidate sought a party nomination out of pragmatism rather than party loyalty. Why not leave him on the ballot and run a candidate against him to show how truly uninspired the 8th District’s Republican voters are by Hart’s portfolio of issues?

UPDATE: Bill Hobbs emails to inform us that Hart has already been removed from the ballot:

He already has been denied a place on the GOP ballot. It happened right after he filed. He was notified by the Tennessee Republican Party that he would not be permitted to appear on the GOP ballot. He actually filed for candidacy for two different seats, and has been notified in both cases that his name will not appear on the GOP ballot.

Interesting. Now the Republican Party is the Republican Party so they should be able to decide who their nominee is and establish the rules to select that nominee — in theory.

But those primary ballots we will use in August are not printed by the TNGOP and the elections are not administered by them. Once the state and the party co-mingles the primary selection process should not any and all candidates be allowed ballot access? If not, why not?
