Superdelegate Bredesen Leaning Towards Clinton?

Posted on April 28, 2008 at 8:32 am

I had always got the feeling that Gov. Bredesen was, at root, an Obama man. Jackson Baker reports differently:

Bredesen is widely believed to be tilting toward Senator Clinton, and he has acknowledged in the past that most of his advisors lean that way.

If he is a Clinton man, he would certainly seem to be a reluctant one, if this 2005 interview is any indication.

Byron T is one of Bill’s bestest buds.

Please. He’ll wait it out as long as possible and then come out on the side that’s winning.

Pragmatism is the name of the game, as GoldnI suggests. Many current (and future) Hillary supporters are not her biggest fans, necessarily; but they are Democrats first, and if they view her as more electable in the general than Obama, they will put aside their differences and defer to her reported skill at the game.

It would not surprise me in the least to find Gov. Bredesen among these.

Perhaps. But if/when Obama emerges in June with a clear margin of victory, Bredesen will come down on that side. He knows damn well what the long-term consequences would be for the Democratic Party if they overturn the will of the voters.
